Monterey Bay Woodland Care has been growing and evolving since 2020 when it started out simply as a poison oak removal business run by Miles Ryan and his two brothers, all of whom were born and raised in Santa Cruz County. Since 2023, we have added the service of woodland thinning for health and fire resilience, and have begun to target the restoration of trees susceptible to sudden oak death after training under Lee Klinger of Sudden Oak Life. Miles received a Bachelor of Science for Watershed Management in 2015 from the University of California at Davis, and has since lived in and studied plant communities around California, the United States, Ireland, and Honduras, bringing a wide breadth of practices, opinions, and approaches to caring for the land of Monterey Bay, and following the wisdom of local indigenous leadership about how to particularly care for our specific biome. Monterey Bay Woodland Care is now expanding into the need for regular woodland maintenance that has been ignored since western colonization and is honored work and tend such beautiful and unique land.
